Brent young, son of South Hill carrier Brian Young has won a NALC Donelon Scholarship. This is awarded by our Union at the National level. One scholarship is awarded in each of the five USPS Regions. The winners are judged on the basis of secondary school records, personal qualifications and test scores. The judges are experienced persons in the educational field. The award is $1,000 per year for four years. Brent is the first winner from Puyallup. Some of the distinctions and honors Brent has won are:
     o Presidents award for outstanding academic excellence.
     o Varsity and letter scholar athlete award for track/field.
     o Varsity and letter scholar athlete award for cross country.
     o Highest Honors grades 10 --- 12.
     o Selected for National honor roll.
     o VISSTA Award.
     o Member of National Society of High School Scholars
     o Puyallup School District Outstanding senior Award.

Brent has also made it to the State Track and Field Championships with the Emerald Ridge High School 4X4 4A team. He has helped with the food drive the past two years with his mother and two younger brothers. Brent recently changed his career goal from Athletic Trainer to Pre-Med, he wants to become a Doctor with a specialty of Cardiology.
Brent has been accepted at the University of Washington. He begins in the fall of 2008. On behalf of all the Letter Carriers of Branch 1484 and nationwide I wish to congratulate Brent. His hard work and determination are to be commended.
